Simulating jet quenching in detail

There are now several simulators of heavy-ion collisions, each specializing on one or a few aspects of the collision. In some cases, there are multiple simulators which address the same feature while incorporating different theoretical approaches. The JETSCAPE collaboration seeks to build an open-source framework for end-to-end event generators, where multiple sub-generators can be subsumed in replaceable modules, to form extensive simulators that can produce complete events, resembling experimental events. In addition, the JETSCAPE collaboration carries out extensive comparisons between simulations and experimental data, using Bayesian calibration to determine the values of, and correlations between, the parameters.
After a review of the framework and major results, I will focus on the description of jet quenching within JETSCAPE. I will argue that, taking the entirety of the data, one finds multiple distinct stages in the quenching of jets based on the virtuality of the parton. One also finds an effective weakening of the coupling of the hard partons with the medium at high virtuality, as predicted by coherence arguments for energy loss.
